Making Healthy Choices: BPAC Offers Event Encouraging Youths to Say No to Harmful Habits
On Monday, November 13, the Multilingual Department hosted the third BPAC (Bilingual Parent Advisory Committee) event with the topic: "Aprende a decir no a las drogas, a las pandillas y a los amigos tóxicos" (Learn to say no to drugs, gangs, and toxic friendships). The event was held in the North Chicago Community High School auditorium from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. Attendees included District 187 parents, families, and community members.
Guest speaker Dr. Ferney Ramírez spoke about the importance of making healthy choices and avoiding negative influences. The workshop aimed to educate parents about the psychological benefits of being positive role models for their children as they navigate their age's difficulties and social pressures. In addition, Dr. Ramirez provided a toolkit of techniques that parents could use daily to help their children build self-esteem, emotional intelligence, and the confidence needed to stand tall in the face of adversity.
While the adults remained captivated in the NCCHS auditorium, NCCP (North Chicago Community Partners) offered childcare in the gymnasium. Children were entertained with fall-themed arts and crafts, games, pizza, drinks, and more.

El lunes 13 de noviembre, el Departamento Multilingüe organizó el tercer evento del BPAC (Comité Asesor de Padres Bilingües) con el tema: "Aprende a decir no a las drogas, a las pandillas y a los amigos tóxicos.” El evento se llevó a cabo en el auditorio de North Chicago Community High School de 5:30 a 7:30 pm. Entre los asistentes se encontraban padres, familias y miembros de la comunidad del Distrito 187.
El orador invitado Dr. Ferney Ramírez habló sobre la importancia de tomar decisiones saludables y evitar influencias negativas. El taller tuvo como objetivo educar a los padres sobre los beneficios psicológicos de ser modelos positivos para sus hijos mientras navegan por las dificultades y presiones sociales de su edad.
