Freshman Orientation Class of 2027

Freshmen Class of 2027 Ready to Take on High School

August 18, 2023

First-year students at North Chicago Community High School got a taste of what to expect in high school at their orientation on Friday, August 18. The event, which students and their families attended, kicked off with a door greeting from Assistant Principal Andrew Jones. Jones was available to help attendees navigate the event, which included tables covering essential topics such as the class schedule, the daily bell schedule, PowerSchool login information, and information about sports, clubs, and school events.

The introduction to the event was electric as participants got to pick up their student IDs, pick up new technology, engage in raffles, and indulge in different snacks and beverages. After the welcome, students and families were given tours to learn about various aspects of high school life. Attendees visited classrooms, were introduced to Principal Joseph Parker, and were allowed to ask questions and get advice from upper-level students and alums. During the tour, many freshmen and families said they were excited about starting high school.

In addition to the academic and extracurricular information, the orientation discussed additional resources such as the CARES Program: Family Resources offered through North Chicago Community Partners. The CARES Program includes the Student CARE closet, which is equipped to help students with basic resources, the Vision CARE program, which provides eye examinations and glasses to eligible students; and the Family Care Closet (FCC), which is the school-based pantry located inside NCCHS.

The orientation was a success, and it helped to prepare first-year students for the challenges and opportunities of high school.
